In Dietrich Klinge's oeuvre, the head takes on a special role. The artist does not create portraits of a specific character, contrary to the tradition of the classical portrait, but the archaic-looking head figures could rather be understood as a visualization of the fundamental idea of the universally human. Dietrich Klinge's heads elude any ethnological and anthropogenic classifications and yet do not seem alien in their expression, but convey a world-embracing, humanly familiar expression. The representation of an idea of the human goes along with the understanding of the all-round morality and of a spirit, which enables us as human beings to recognize and classify our environment with all its facets.
