In 1905, the German painter and graphic artist Max Ackermann (1887 - 1975) created the first non-figurative picture even before Wassily Kandinsky, who is known today as a pioneer of modernity. Ackermann turned away from the representational painting tradition and has to be considered as one of the innovators of painting. The Bode Galerie shows selected paintings, pastels and graphics of the years 1922 to 1972 from the versatile oeuvre of the artist until October 2nd in Nuremberg.
