In 1905, the German painter and graphic artist Max Ackermann (1887 - 1975) created the first non-figurative picture even before Wassily  Kandinsky, who is known today as a pioneer of modernity. Ackermann  turned away from the representational painting tradition and has to be  considered as one of the innovators of painting.
