The exhibition shows the individual currents and artists of the early 20th century and sets them in relation to and with each other. Artists of Expressionism, the Bauhaus and the Hölzel Circle will be presented.

In times of upheaval, art can be an opportunity for change, as a counteraction to the disastrous standstill. As a creative form of positive counter-movement, modernist artists sought new shores within motifs and forms of expression, thus creating an aesthetic realignment in times of uncertainty. The radical courage with which modernist artists countered destruction with creation moved not only art history, but also world history.
