"Natur und Kunst, sie scheinen sich zu fliehen" überlegte Goethe um 1802 in seinem Sonett "Natur und Kunst" und widerlegt diese Annahme bereits in den nächsten Verszeilen. Die Meister der niederländischen Stilllebenmalerei des 17. und des 18. Jahrhunderts führten eindrucksvoll vor Augen, dass sich Natur und Kunst nicht fliehen, sondern in ihrem Zusammenspiel eine Symbiose auf höchster Ebene eingehen.

Wolfgang Zelmer, der die Kunst des Stilllebens innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Kunst zu verorten wusste, führt eben diese Symbiose von Natur und Kunst in seltener Meisterschaft fort. Er fasst die Pracht der Natur in poetische Kompositionen und lässt dabei seinen Stillleben die Freiheit zeitgenössisch-individueller Kombinatorik. In dieser Konsequenz stehen Wolfgang Zelmers neueste Arbeiten, wobei es ihm ein weiteres Mal gelang, dieses klassische Genre zu erneuern.

„Natur und Kunst, sie scheinen sich zu fliehen“ Goethe considers in 1802 in his sonnet of the same title and refutes this assumption already in the following verses. The artists of the Dutch still-lifes out of the 17th and the 18th century showed quite plainly that nature and art are no contrasts. In their combination in fact they celebrate a symbiosis on a high level.

Wolfgang Zelmer continues this symbiosis in rare mastery and in this way he placed the still-life-painting in contemporary art. He captures the magnificence of nature in poetic compositions and at the same time his still-lifes are full of contemporary and individual composition. The current artworks of Wolfgang Zelmer are in this consequence. With these he succeeded another time to revive this classic genre.
