During the mid-1920s, went to Europe innitially to study music, but was inspired by the artists there, including Man Ray and Lazlo Moholy-Nagy

Left law school at University of Southern California to study photography

Worked as a commercial photographer and a photographer for the aircraft industry during the early 40s
