DAVIS & LANGDALE COMPANY, 231 EAST 60TH STREET, NEW YORK, ESTABLISHED IN 1952, announces its forthcoming exhibition: GALLERY SELECTIONS which will begin on Saturday, October 25th and continue through Saturday, December 20th, 2014. The exhibition will consist of about 30 works of art. Among the American pieces are a painting by Ernest Lawson (1873 – 1939) member of The Eight; watercolors by Ashcan School-associated artists Ethel Myers (1881 – 1960) and Jerome Myers (1867 – 1940); a terra cotta sculpture Seated Circus Performer (see above) by Elie Nadelman (1882 – 1946); a photograph of a windowpane frost by Wilson A. ("Snowflake") Bentley (1865 -1931); and Man Seated Smoking (see above), a drawing by the universally esteemed self-taught artist Bill Traylor (1854 -1949). Contemporary American works include a painting and a cloisonné pear jewel by Robert M. Kulicke (1924 - 2007) and a watercolor by Albert York (1928 – 2009), executed about 1969, which has never before been exhibited. The British Bloomsbury School is represented by the paintings of Vanessa Bell (1879 – 1961) (see above); works on paper by Duncan Grant (1885 – 1978) and Roger Fry (1866-1934); and a watercolor by Dora Carrington (1893-1932). Among the British modernists are Gwen John (1876 – 1939) and the photographer Charles Jones (1866-1959), known for his stunning images of vegetables and flowers which he cultivated personally. Objects on display include a 20th century hand-carved Ice Fishing Decoy and two 19th century French Lay Figures.
