This exhibition is SHARON ETGAR's third solo show at Davis & Langdale Company, and will consist of about thirty eight works dating from 2011 until 2014, including collages and thread drawings on paper, as well as two handmade thread and wood sculptures.
Also on view will be two books from the collection of the artist: a sketchbook containing collages, drawings and paintings, and a leather bound “sewing book” of 102 pages. Not originally intended for exhibition, this is the first time they will be seen.
ETGAR, born 1975, lives and creates in Tel Aviv, Israel. She is currently an instructor at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, and in the past has taught at The Jerusalem Studio School for Painting and Drawing (JSS); she has also taught at their summer program in Italy.
Educated at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, 1997 - 2001, and then at The Jerusalem Studio School, 2003 - 2007, ETGAR also spent three summers studying with JSS in Italy at the International School of Painting and Drawing at Montecastello di Vibio, Umbria.
ETGAR has had one person exhibitions at Rothchild Fine Art in Tel Aviv (2010) and has been in group exhibitions at Sommer Gallery, Tel Aviv (2012); at Rothschild (2010, 2009); at the Jerusalem Studio School (2008); at Gallery 33, Tel Aviv (2006, 2005), Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem (2005, 2013); the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, (2013); Inga Gallery, Tel Aviv, (2014); and at Gallery Joe, Philadelphia, PA (2015). Most recently Etgar’s work was exhibited in Gallery Joe’s booth at the 2015 edition of Drawing Now at Paris’ Carreau du Temple. In May 2013 ETGAR joined the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
