SHARON ETGAR: THREAD DRAWINGS

New York, NY, USA Tuesday, March 26, 2013–Saturday, April 20, 2013

DAVIS & LANGDALE COMPANY, 231 EAST 60TH STREET, NEW YORK, established in 1952, announces its forthcoming exhibition:

SHARON ETGAR
THREAD DRAWINGS

beginning Tuesday, March 26th, and continuing through Saturday, April 20th, 2013.
“(they are) for me… like a diary of feelings and moods translated to colors. Like dancing with the hands.... moments when shape or color create an expression of my feelings, memories or thoughts, are better than most of things... I know that these threads in their colors and drawings are for me exactly like words… my thoughts and secrets will stay there… the back sides of many of them are very important to me. Sometimes more than the front, more than the conscious side..... The conversation between the two sides is how I feel inside.”
SHARON ETGAR

The thread drawings were done during the last several years as private works, not originally intended for exhibition. This is the first time they will be seen.

This is SHARON ETGAR’S second show in the United States. Her collages were exhibited at Davis & Langdale in 2011.

ETGAR, born 1975, lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel. She is an instructor of painting and drawing in the Continuing Studies of The Jerusalem Studio School; she has also taught at their summer program in Italy.

ETGAR has made a series of works on paper to accompany T.S.Eliot's Four Quartets and William Wordsworth's Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, translated into Hebrew by Professor Menachem Lorberbaum, to be published in Israel in this year.

Educated at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem 1997 - 2001, and then at the Jerusalem Studio School for Painting and Drawing (JSS) 2003 - 2007, ETGAR also spent three summers studying with JSS in Italy at the International School of Painting and Drawing at Montecastello di Vibio, Umbria.

In 2010 ETGAR had a one person exhibition at Rothchild Fine Art in Tel Aviv.
She has been in group exhibitions at Sommer Gallery, Tel Aviv (Veronique Doisneau, in 2012) ; at Rothschild (2010, 2009); at the Jerusalem Studio School (2008); at Gallery 33, Tel Aviv (2006, 2005), and at Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem (2005).

Her work will be included in Moby Dick, a group exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum from May 30 – October 5, 2013.
