Dean Borghi Fine Art is pleased to present “Friends with POP!”. The show will run from October 26th – November 30th, 2017.
Three friends, pioneering unconventional ideas became major influences to American Abstract art will be featured in the show. Neil Williams, a painter, Frank Stella, a painter and printmaker and John Chamberlain, a sculptor come together for Friends with POP! Neil Williams (1934-1988) pioneered painting on irregular shaped canvases. Frank Stella (b.1936) wows viewers with his minimalistic works and his connections to the post painterly abstract. John Chamberlain (1927-2011) used old cars and parts to bring the abstract expressionist style into a three-dimensional space.
This exhibition further examines the relationship and influences Williams, Stella, and Chamberlain had. Between the friends they would share studio spaces, go out on the town and most importantly bounce ideas between each other. The main gallery features an important work titled Sartorial Habits of Billy Bo, 1966 by Neil Williams. This large work was also exhibited in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s exhibition “Systemic Painting” in 1966 where large irregularly shaped canvases were exhibited.
