Silver gelatin prints from 1980s Cut Out Paper series by Alberto Rizzo are shown at Donna Leatherman. The images are of a piece of paper loosely folded into an abstract composition.
Rizzo redefined the standard for innovative fashion photography. He attended the Academia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy before emigrating to the United States in 1960. After arriving in New York, Rizzo soared in his career as a fashion photographer, receiving numerous awards. In 2017, his work was featured in Harper's Bazaar 150th Anniversary Celebration, during which the magazine's most iconic images were projected on to the Empire State Building, including Rizzo's celebrated 1970 cover.
Alberto Rizzo's fine art work is a testament to his ability to continually recreate himself and his style. Evocative paper cut outs of abstracted human forms as well as mysterious dream like shadow forms become elegant images. His use of light is extremely sensual and highly sophisticated. These photographs were hand printed by the artist.
