Etherton Gallery’s summer exhibition, From the Archive: Masters of 20th Century American Photography (June 3 - August 31, 2018) opens with a reception as part of Second Saturdays, at 7-10pm, Saturday June 9. The show celebrates the gallery’s 37th anniversary, presenting the work that established its reputation as one of the premier photography galleries in the United States.  Owner Terry Etherton has curated over 200 exhibitions and participated in over 100 art fairs.

On view in the pop-up: Summer Color, larger than life, hand-colored photographs of birds and flowers by Tucson artist Kate Breakey.

Etherton Gallery has partnered with The Skateroom and is the exclusive retail dealer in Arizona for their limited edition artist skateboards. The skateboards on display are designed to be hung on the wall, but could also be used for skating. As part of our ongoing gallery initiative to improve the lives of Tucsonans through art and education, a portion of gallery sales will go toward raising funds for the Cushing Street Skate Park, a needed covered skate park for Tucson youth.

From the Archive: Masters of 20th Century American Photography demonstrates the gallery’s expertise in American modernist photography from the post World War II era, and draws from the gallery’s vast and ever-changing inventory. Some of the artists featured are: Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White, Harry Callahan, Robert Frank, Frank Gohlke, Kenneth Josephson, Annie Leibovitz, Danny Lyon, W. Eugene Smith, Alex Webb, and Joel-Peter Witkin.

Terry Etherton said, “American photographers documented and defined the 20th century. I am thrilled to bring this period to life in an incredible array of images and artists, and share them with the Tucson community.”

From the Archive: Masters of 20th Century American Photography reveals Terry Etherton’s commitment to American photography. Highlights of the show include a unique print of Chicago, 1954 by Harry Callahan; a rare print of Navajo, Pool Room, Gallup, New Mexico, 1973 by Danny Lyon; W. Eugene Smith’s Walk to Paradise Garden, 1946, which came directly from his assistant; and a rare print of Men of Air, Macy's Day Parade, New York, 1948 by American icon, Robert Frank.
