Etherton Gallery’s 35-year relationship representing pioneering documentary photographer and filmmaker Danny Lyon (b. 1942) continues with a solo exhibit at the 20th edition of Paris Photo.

Heralded as one of the most influential documentary photographers of his generation, Lyon was a leader of “New Journalism.” a personal form of documentary work that looked at the world from the inside.

Etherton Gallery is featuring legendary work from some of the photographer’s most important projects from the 1960’s and 1970’s along with vintage prints and complete portfolio sets including The Bikeriders, The Destruction of Lower Manhattan, Conversations with the Dead, and Merci Gonaïves. Also on display is Lyon’s most recent portfolio, Deep Sea Diver, an extraordinary portrait of a disappearing China from Lyon’s always intimate, empathetic perspective.

Danny Lyon’s highly acclaimed 50-year retrospective, Message to the Future, showcasing his photography, film, audio, and ephemera premiered at The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, in June and is currently at San Francisco’s de Young Museum. The 175-image exhibit will travel to Fotomuseum Winterthur and C/O Berlin Foundation in 2017.
