ROBERT HELMAN : La Genèse, Éternité en devenir

Robert Helman (1910-1990) was a major painter in the Parisian art scene in the post-war period. A French artist born into a Jewish family in Romania, Helman drew on his personal journey of migration and exile, as well as his relationship with nature, for inspiration.Robert Helman’s first solo show at the Diane de Polignac Gallery is a tribute to the artist’s very first exhibition in Paris in 1945, presenting the same theme of Genesis. The Diane de Polignac Gallery presents an ensemble of Genesis, abstract landscapes through which the artist tries to reinvent the world after the trauma of war. Each landscape of Genesis is a creation of the world: “A certain vibration of matter in relation with the human being, an instinctive, organic painting” in the words of the artist. These artworks are a force of action, a force of transformation. The painter fixes on the canvas eternities
on the move.During the opening on May 11, 2023, the Diane de Polignac Gallery is organizing the signing of the book ENTRETIENS – Robert Helman & Max-Pol Fouchet, presented by Clotilde Scordia, published on May 5, 2023.In June 1975, the poet and art critic Max-Pol Fouchet proposed to his friend the painter Robert Helman to interview him about his creative approach. They met in the painter’s studio in Montparnasse on two occasions. The interviews were recorded and transcribed in this book illustrated by seven inks and a painting from the Germination series by Robert Helman.
