FIAC Hors les Murs
Galerie Eva Presenhuber is delighted to present 'Grotto', a showcase of sculptures by French artist Jean-Marie Appriou in the Jardin des Tuileries. Five cast aluminum cypress trees and four caves will create a mysterious landscape for visitors to lose themselves in. Appriou’s work often refers to the Symbolists, and here he is referencing Arnold Böcklin’s Isle of the Dead where cypress trees carry the weight of the space between life and death, and earth and sky. In caves, time is measured in calcification: the slow collection of experience creating forms. In Appriou’s grottos, human hands emerge and enact an unnamable ritual.
