Beyond Landscape Opening, Friday 8th March with works by Xianwei Zhu, Christoph Pöggeler and Sonja Kalb In 2024 the art world celebrates the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich, whose art continues to have a great influence on contemporary art. "Beyond Landscape" will show an exciting dialog with the works by three artists who deal with landscape painting and romanticism in their own way: Xianwei Zhu combines Chinese Daoist landscape painting with modern abstraction. In homage to Caspar David Friedrich, Xianwei Zhu integrates small human figures as wanderer and observer. The Caspar-David-Friedrich-Zentrum, Greifswald honors Xianwei Zhu with its current exhibition "Cloud Hands". Christoph Pöggeler uses found objects for his almost surrealist romantic paintings, for which he was awarded the Rhineland Art Prize. His works can be found in renowned art collections, such as the Tishman-Speyer Collection, whose collection is also a permanent part of the MoMa New York. Sonja Kalb's works are predominantly abstract, capturing the landscape in a sensual way with her color gradients - the feeling, the atmosphere is the focus. Her works have been honored with the WAA Woman Art Award in cooperation with UNESCO.
