The "Column Saints" - Sculptures on advertising columns by the Düsseldorf artist Christoph Pöggeler
-Long a landmark of the city-
On September 2, 2022 Christoph Pöggeler presents the three most famous motifs for the first time as limited bronze sculptures in the renowned Galerie Kellermann.
THE KISS, THE PHOTOGRAPHER and THE BUSINESSMAN each appear in a height of approximately 35 cm, the limited edition of each variant is 45 copies + 5 EA.
All three motifs are available as bronze hand-painted in color by the artist and in a green-gold patinated version.
Every child in Düsseldorf knows the sculptures of Christoph Pöggeler.
At 10 prominent locations in the city so far, the "column saints" tower on advertising pillars: at the Oberkasseler Brücke/Tonhalle, at Burgplatz, at Joseph-Beuys-Ufer, at the train station, at the TV tower and many other places. Pöggeler was inspired to create this cycle of works by the column saints of late antiquity, some of whom spent many years on high columns and were originally worshiped as statues of gods as ascetics and as holy men. Today they are advertising columns vying for people's attention. On them, Pöggeler places everyday figures that are so realistically designed and painted as if they were alive. Today, the "column saints" have become Düsseldorf landmarks and a program item on every city tour.
Christoph Pöggeler - awarded the Rhenish Art Prize
Even if his sculptural work with the "Säulenheiligen" is particularly well known, Christoph Pöggeler basically remains mainly an outstanding painter who transforms found objects made of wood and other materials into surreal romantic works of art. He was awarded the Rhenish Art Prize for his painterly oeuvre.
Together with the new Column Saints Bronze Sculptures, Kellermann Gallery will show a special selection of Christoph Pöggeler's painting with many new works from September 2 to October 1.
