Alongside his main activities of wood sculpture and drawing, David Nash has for several years been developing, at the invitation of the Galerie Lelong, a body of print work comprising pastel stencils – the highly crafted execution of which often makes each print unique – and of series of small wooden multiples which have as many variations as the trunk or branch of various trees allow.

The exhibition Colours and Columns at the Librairie is an opportunity to showcase recent work: geometric or biomorphic forms, as well as evocative plant forms, including tree silhouettes. These new works reveal a new palette of colours, most of them very vivid, reflecting an evolution in the artist’s sensitive view of the natural world around him, particularly in relation to the seasons.

David Nash (born 1945 in Esher, England) lives and works in Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. He has been a member of the Royal Academy since 1999. His work, which is widely represented in the major museums of Europe, America, Australia and Japan, has recently been the focus of retrospectives at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Kew Gardens in England, as well as the National Museum in Cardiff and the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne.
