In 2014, Fabienne Verdier was invited by the Juilliard School in New York, the famous performing arts conservatory, to explore the interaction between music and painting. This experiment has now been repeated and developed with the voice. While listening in her studio to some of Mozart’s most famous arias, the artist allowed her body to respond with the most appropriate gesture. Spontaneously, she produced a vortex, the spiralling dynamic present in many natural phenomena. The result is a series of 15 engravings created by the artist during the lockdown. The energy and clarity of Mozart can be seen in the generous yet firm brushstrokes of Fabienne Verdier.

Fabienne Verdier was born in 1962 in Paris. She lives and works near Paris. In 2019, the Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence dedicated a retrospective exhibition to the artist, retracing her career since her return from China. Her works feature in a number of collections, including the MNAM Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Musée Granet (Aix-en-Provence) the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen (Munich), the Nasjonalmuseet (Oslo), and the Fondation Hubert Looser and the Kunsthaus in Zurich. Two major exhibitions are in preparation for 2022: in the Unterlinden museum in Colmar and the Saarbruck Museum.
