In his new monumental works, Peter Böhnisch explores the possibilities of painting beyond oil paint and canvas. Using pastels, he paints large enigmatic bodies as well as portraits inspired by antique models on sand, which he fixes on fiberboard.   

After studying at the State Acad­emy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe with Anselm Reyle and Andreas Slominski, he initially produced drawings, which were then gradually replaced by canvases painted with tempera, wax cray­ons, pastel or acrylic.    

About his work the artist, born in 1977, says: “I want to get in touch with something that is always there. That many people may be longing for and that has to do with things that cannot be explained. Perhaps one could also describe that as joy, al­though my pictures are not only joyful.”
