Galerie Michael Janssen is pleased to present its first solo exhibition with young Indonesian painter Iabadiou Piko. Featuring a series of abstract paintings, “Proporsi Biru - Der Anteil des Blausis” is Piko’s first solo exhibition outside of his native Indonesia following a successful museum presentation at SELASAR SUNARYO ART SPACE in Bandung, Indonesia.
A self -taught painter who majored in Art Photography, Piko (b.1984) is heavily inspired by his surrounding environment - expressing and translating this reality into paintings using a rich visual language composed of streaks, doodles, lines, images and impressions of forms, shapes and colours.
Exploring the expressive capacity of abstraction, the works are both allegorical and metaphorical at once and function as a visual diary of sorts for the artist who records and illustrates his own emotions, experiences and memories in these works. Art and life for Piko is therefore not only interconnected but inseparable.
Capturing specific moments in time, these highly intuitive emotive works reflects the artist’s meditations on memory, time and the transience of life and presents an interesting alternative reading of abstraction in the present context of Indonesia and the world.
Piko lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He recently was awarded two prestigious residencies: In 2016 at the Luzhunan Historical House ”, Luzhunan, Miaoli , Taiwan and in 2015 Transit #3, Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Bandung.
