Biography

Timeline

1931
Born on August 29th in Paris on rue Hallé. He is the oldest of five brothers of whom one: Paul became the sculptor Jean-Jules Chassepot. Spent most of his youth up until 1937 in Algeria. Throughout the war, he was in his father's house in Yssingeaux in the Haute-Loire and studied at a religious college. After the war, he returned to Bourg-la-reine. Finished his studies at the Lycée Lakanal.
1949
Under family pressure, he prepars without convinction for a 'Professorat de dessin' at Met de Penninghen's studio where he meets Bernard Aubertin.
1953
Military service in Meknès. A local bookstore, 'la Comédie humaine', exhibits his first drawings.
1955
Returns to France. First studio at Bourg-la-reine while acting as an instructor.
1956
First solo exhibition at the Galerie Le Soleil.
1958
A contract with the Doctor Audouin, collector, allows him to quit teaching.
1959 - 1962
He studies engraving at the Atelier 17 of S.W. Hayter
1961
Painting prize at the Biennale de Paris. He maries MArie-Claude Teuma and installs at the rue des Carmes.
1963
Around Galerie Fels the first core of the Nouvelle Figuration forms
1964
With Gassiot-Talabot, Télémaque and Foldes, he co-organizes the exhibition 'Mythologies quotidiennes'. The birth of his daughter Nathalie; he creates a piece in honor of her each year.
