Studyied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (frequented the ateliers of sculptors Jean Tinguely and Germain Richier from whom he received his foundation in understanding sculpture)
1950
Debuted as a sculptor, working mostly in iron, sheet iron (tole), brass and aluminum
1955
Exhibited for the first time at the Palmes Gallery in Paris, followed by a show at the gallery Contemporaries in New York where he encountered major art world individuals such as Leo Castelli, Robert Rauchenberg, James Rosenquist, Jasper Johns and Isamu Noguchi among others
1959
Won the Prize of the Critics at the Paris Biennale
1960
Began creating furniture that was dream-like and surrealist in spirit
1980
Work in bronze commenced
1986
First show at the gallery Patrice Trigano in Paris

Died in Villejuif, France at the age of 88

2010
His plan for a monumental sculpture for the City of Shanghaï for the World Expo is realized in Jing’an Park. Standing 12 meters high, his sculpture draws its inspiration from the Girouette of Marbella.
The Hiquily Suite is inaugurated at the Hotel Lutétia.

Germaine Richier has him invited to the 12th May Salon, where he will exhibit until 1986. He presents L’Echassier. Meets Eve and Henry Miller.
1955
First exhibition at the Galerie de Palmes (Paris). The Nationa Museum of Modern Art of Paris purchases La Bicyclette.
1954
Buys a studio at 32 rue Raymond Losserand in the 14th Arrondissement of Paris. The same year, he develops the “direct metal” technique, consisting of autogenous welding, inspired by Gonzalez and the ancient Greeks. He frequently visits the studio of Germaine Richier, who, seduced by Hiquily’s work, encourages him and passes orders on to him for the pedestals and mountings for her own sculptures. She introduces him to art collectors, dealers and critics, including Alain Jouffroy, Rencontre Kijno and Robert Müller. He creates his first mobiles: Fontaine Mobile (1954), Automate (1955) and Danseur de corde (1955).
1953
Hiquily leaves the Beaux-Arts after winning the Prix de Sculpture for his piece Neptune.
1948
Enters the National School of Beaux-Arts of Paris in the studio of Janniot and Gimond, where he mixes with César, Michel Guino and Albert Féraud.
1945 - 1947
Brief enrolment in the School of Beaux-Arts of Orléans, then enlists for Indochina in the Leclerc Division. He receives the medal of the Royal Order of Luang Prabang personally from King Somdet Prachav Sisavang Vong.
