In the year 2150 BC, King Pepi II dies. His death brings Egypt troubled times. All provinces come into rebellion and nomarchs (local governors) no longer recognize the authority of Pharaoh. The first world power undergoes its first revolution. For decades commoners rebelled, asking, in particular, for the attainment of eternal life after death, privilege that only the royal class was entitled to. With the advent of Mentuhotep in Thebes announcing a new period of peace and prosperity in the empire, the civil servants had won the right to place tablets on their graves, opening de facto their access to eternal life.
