In its exhibition policy, Galleria Open Art deliberately alternates major figures of 20th-century art with younger ones, seeking continuity and consistency with the past, present, and future in order to establish a specific identity in the Italian Art world. There are two main approaches in our exhibition programs: one that may be described as 'gestural' and the other that could be called 'constructive.' The former comprises such artists as Toti Scialoja, Jiri Kolar, and Conrad Marca-Relli, to whom the gallery has devoted retrospective exhibitions that have also tended to confirm the relevance of their painting, message, and intellectual legacy. Specific attention is given to the developments of the gestural approach—for example, with Gérard Schneider and Paul Jenkins—where this animated current of abstraction is investigated in an emotionally characterized vein with a refined use of color.
Parallel to this, there is another area of interest and analysis with which Galleria Open Art is concerned: that of classical Tuscan abstraction. This includes such artists as Vinicio Berti, Silvano Bozzolini, Alvaro Monnini, Gualtiero Nativi, and Mario Nuti, in whose works structural and geometric rigor is combined with a remarkably delicate use of color. The vitality of this movement is illustrated by such artists as Walter Fusi (Galleria Open Art has taken on the task of compiling the general catalogue of this artist’s works), with his Neo-Constructive images, which are structured with the use of perspective. The younger artists in this current include, for example, Bruno Querci, who, for over 20 years, has been consistently producing abstract works based on the alternation of blacks and whites, with which he seeks to express the nature of light in an image, and Roberto Floreani, whose position with regard to the work of art is based on a circular development of the concept of life in which the pictorial structure, the true distinguishing feature, originates from the elaboration of its physical substance, which, with its depth and transparency, is enriched with unexpected touches of color that give energy and vitality to the work.
