LUIS CRUZ AZACETA
Also during November and December the George Adams Gallery will exhibit a group of 8 watercolors by Luis Cruz Azaceta made between 1977 and 1981. Included in the exhibition are several unsparing depictions of inner city life inspired by real-life events as well as several early self-portraits, such as the sinister “Self-portrait: Smiling” from 1977, and the more light-hearted “Self-portrait: Spitting Bullets” of 1981. Luis Cruz Azaceta was born in Cuba in 1946, immigrated to New York in 1960, and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1969. The recipient of numerous grants and the subject of several museum surveys, Azaceta has lived and worked in New Orleans since 1992.
