Opening reception: November 11, 6-8pm
(Main Gallery) - During November and December, the George Adams Gallery will present new figurative sculpture by Michael Ferris, Jr.
Ferris’s new sculptures are portraits constructed from rough-hewn recycled wood covered by polychrome patterns. In a major development from his previous work, this exhibition includes full and half-figure portraits as well as heads that are three or four times life-size. In addition to the five sculptures, the exhibition includes study drawings that provide a window into the artist’s process of building and carving the three-dimensional sculptures.
Since his New York debut exhibition at the gallery in 2008, Ferris received a NYFA grant and a BRIO Award, and was the subject of one-man exhibition that traveled through the mid-West in 2009. He was also included in group exhibitions at Chicago Cultural Center, the Selby Gallery at the Ringling College of Art, the Schick Art Gallery at Skidmore College, and the Art Gallery at Northern Illinois University.
