Gladwells Rutland are delighted to be at The Burghley Horse Trials for their second year and will provide a spectacle of Art and Sculpture for visitors to enjoy within their beautiful exhibition space in a commanding position on Avenue A. Burghley Horse Trials is one of the most prestigious global three-day eventing competitions in the world and generates excitement and interest drawing visitors from all over the country.
This celebration of all things equestrian is set in the beautiful parkland of the Burghley estate with William Cecil’s gracious sixteenth century house as its backdrop. We will be showcasing our finest paintings from the Impressionists to our contemporary artists working today in this wonderful environment.
December Morning, Cornwall by Sir Alfred Munnings will take centre stage. This crisp and beautifully composed painting is imbued with fresh morning light as the hounds move purposefully forward under the guidance of the huntsman. Rivière en Normandie, painted in 1913 by Gustave Loiseau will be hung to view as will Été en Normandie by George Charles Robin with its delightful depiction of figures busily at work on the harvest.
This year our stand will have by its side our Gallery in the Garden to complement it. The dynamic life size sculpture Walking Stallion created by Edward Waites, will provide a focal point, and stand surrounded by the works of fellow sculptor Simon Gudgeon.
Simon’s signature smooth style breathes grace and fluidity of movement into his lithe pieces such as Diving Otters as the animals playfully dance with each other. This year Gladwells have assisted the Burghley organisers as they create a new hospitality space, surrounded by a lime tree avenue and containing further unique works by Simon Gudgeon, such as Luna and Athena.
Edward Waites, will be joining us on our stand to sculpt ‘live’ and will offer a unique opportunity for visitors to view work in progress. The Gladwells team will be on hand to welcome visitors to Stand A27 from 31st August to 3rd September 2023.
We enjoy nothing more than chatting with knowledge and passion about the timeless collection on display. We hope to see you there!
