Sally Egbert (b. 1958) has resided in East Hampton and Manhattan since the 1980’s.  Her luminous abstractions have been termed lyrical, ethereal, of the earth, and harmonious.  Egbert herself has expressed, “My work is about openness, flatness, and emptiness, if not experimentation and discovery” while acknowledging the influence of the fields, clouds, sea, beaches in summer, and bareness of winter on Long Island.

Egbert is the recipient of numerous grants from a variety of artistic organizations including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Gottlieb Foundation, NY Foundation for the Arts, and the Elizabeth Foundation.  Critics and artists have appreciated Egbert’s work, winning the praise of Glenn O’Brien (writer, columnist, editor, publisher, filmmaker, TV host of “TV PARTY” -1978-1982, member of Andy Warhol’s Factory, GQ’s “The Style Guy”), Alex Katz  (Figurative painter), and Nathan Kernan (writer, critic, editor), all of who own her work.  Egbert’s artwork has been presented in a number of solo and group exhibitions held in museums and galleries from the Hamptons to Japan.  Her work has been reviewed in major publications such as Art in America, and she was a subject of the Vanity Fair article, Studios by the Sea, later expanded into a hardbound book.

Working in three dimensions, Egbert’s upcoming exhibition creates “paintings in space,”  by suspending forms, constructing  a landscape of wonder and sophisticated curiosity akin to walking through her painting. A new catalogue accompanies this exhibition, with text by Nathan Kernan.
