Ivan Olinsky is most closely associated with the New York City and Old Lyme, CT. art scene. His studies at the National Academy of Design found him training under the renowned Robert Vonnoh and John Alden Weir. Olinsky was awarded the coveted Associate National Academician in 1914 and full National Academician status in 1919. Olinsky was also a member of the Artist Fund Society; the National Society of Muralist Painters; the American Watercolor Society; the Salmagundi Club; the National Academy of Design; the Allied Artists of America; the American Federation of Arts; the Lotus Club and the American Art Society et al.
The artist was highly awarded during his lifetime winning many prizes, awards and medals. The following is only a partial list of his career exhibitions and honors: the Corcoran Gallery biennials, 1910-1945; the Art Institute of Chicago; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1912-1941; the National Academy of Design, prizes in 1914, 1929, 1931, 1940, 1952-53, 1955; Salmagundi Club, prizes in 1919, 1936, 1937, 1939; Lyme Art Association, prizes in 1922, 1926, 1930, 1937; the National Arts Club, prizes 1931 & 1935; Allied Artists of America, 1935 (gold medal) et al. Olinsky also was an important art instructor teaching painting at the National Academy of Design, the Art Students League and the Grand Central Art School, all in New York City. Olinsky today is recognized as a master American Impressionist known for his depictions of beautiful woman and interior scenes.
