This year at Art Basel Miami Beach, Hauser & Wirth brings new, never-before-seen paintings by Amy Sherald and Charles Gaines – the gallery’s first presentation of both artists since announcing representation earlier this year. Also on view is a new, large-scale work by Mark Bradford, as well as others coming directly from artists’ studios.
The booth showcases a monumental sculpture by esteemed American artist David Smith. ‘Zig I’ (1961) is a compelling example from Smith’s Zig series, and among the most significant and highly resolved works of his career. Other works from the gallery’s roster of estates include ‘Femme’ (2004), an impressive tapestry work by Louise Bourgeois, and ‘Shoe Head’ (1976), a late figurative work by Philip Guston.
To honor Larry Bell’s solo exhibition at ICA Miami, Hauser & Wirth highlights a fine and rare early painting alongside glass and plexiglass sculptures by the renowned Los Angeles-based artist.
