Rohrer Fine Art is pleased to announce the exhibition Ringmaster featuring the artwork of Lawrence Lee with an artist's reception and opening on October 18, 2008 from 6-8 PM. The show runs through January 10, 2009.

Using exotic mediums such as India inks and tea alongside traditional pencils and watercolors, Lee sees his creative artistry as an expression of inner thoughts, personal yearnings, and the pains and joys present in everyday life. He presents his work in a carnival-like swirl of vivid visual imagery, toned in hues of days gone past and reminiscent of the subconscious world of fantasies and dreams. His world of talking creatures and plants are characterized by their representation of the strangeness and randomness of life.

For his Ringmaster pieces, Lee explains, ''I am basing the show on the character of a ringmaster, or conductor of a traveling circus who has fallen in love with a trapeze artist named Sophia. His love for her is unrequited as she tells him that his heart is made of stone and could never really love. It becomes his dream however to obtain a heart of flesh, a 'sacred heart.' One night, he leaves the circus having heard rumors of the whereabouts of a sacred heart. His journey with dreams of 'her', encounters with strange beasts, creatures, and people, and his series of discoveries comprise the show.''

Born in Texas in 1978, Lawrence Lee has been drawing since the age of two. After studying painting at the Texas A&M School of Commerce he received his BFA in 2002 and is currently working on his MFA. For more information, call 949-494-8200.
