Mark Wallinger’s The End opens a year-long sequence of pairings at Ingleby, Edinburgh.
In the early years of the 19th century the English alphabet was considered a system of twenty seven characters
and any schoolroom recitation of ABC’s would end with the 27th letter ‘&’ … and per se and.
Of and by itself and: a connecting symbol, linking one thing with another.
In the spirit of that linkage, and to celebrate the gallery’s 20th year, we are presenting a circular sequence of
pairings opening in March 2017 and ending, where it began, one year later.
The first exhibition is Mark Wallinger’s 2006 film The End, screened to coincide with his major solo
presentations at The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh and DCA, Dundee. The film will be screened on the hour
from 11 am Wednesday - Saturday. Two weeks later The End will be joined by The Apolcalypse, Albrecht
Dürer’s famous volume of woodcuts from 1498, and two weeks after that, in an on-going cycle of fortnightly
change, Wallinger’s film makes way for Katie Paterson’s All the Dead Stars.

Ingleby exhibition hours: 11 am - 5 pm, Wednesday to Saturday or by appointment at any other time. Mark
Wallinger’s film The End is 11 minutes, 40 seconds in duration and will be shown once on the hour from 11am -
4pm. For further information contact Ingleby Gallery on [email protected] or telephone +44 (0)131 556
