Treasure of the heart, 2021
Showcasing the enigmatic talent of the gallery’s established, mid-career and emerging artists, this group exhibition acts as a celebratory retrospective, whilst also introducing brand new artworks to highlight the cross-temporality of the artistic processes and thematic subjects that have transformed the space of the gallery over the past 5 years. The exhibition will present both archival and new paintings by artists who have collaborated with JD Malat Gallery since its inception in 2018. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the never-before seen landscape paintings by the German-Swiss painter Conrad Jon Godly for the first time, despite their creation for his 2017-2018 ‘Dark is Light’ series. Additionally, new textured paintings by the multidisciplinary Turkish artist, Zümrütglû, and the internationally known Colombian abstract painter, Santiago Parra, will also be on view, allowing viewers to reflect on the artists’ evolution since their first solo exhibitions with the gallery in 2018. Past, Present, Future, will also showcase recent paintings by British artists Georgia Dymock and Emily Gillbanks, as well as a monumental patinated bronze sculpture by Ghanaian artist Kojo Marfo and new work by Spanish artist Luis Olaso. Championing new innovative perspectives, JD Malat Gallery will also introduce new artworks by French artist Yann Leto, Californian painter John Copeland and British artist Charlie Lewis-Marffy for the very first time.
Exploring subjects that range from nature and contemporary society to the human figure and the inner mind, the exhibition seeks to highlight each artist’s highly attuned nature to respond to, and innovate from, our surrounding world and topical themes.
