Book signing with the artists, Saturday, October 8th, from 4-6 p.m.

Fried Waters is a photographic poem about time and memory, place and labor, the symbolism of salt and the process by which it snaps from liquid to crystal. (from Mark Haworth-Booth’s introduction of the book, Fried Waters)

Jim Kempner Fine Art is very pleased to announce Fried Waters, an exhibition of photographs by the husband and wife team, Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez. Ranging from representational to painterly abstractions, these stunningly beautiful images call attention to the natural process of converting water to salt at two ancient salt collection sites in Yucatan, Mexico. The exhibition, their first in New York, will open on September 17 and run through October 22. On Saturday, October 8, the artists will be at the gallery for a book signing and celebration of their recent publication, Fried Waters, by Nazraeli Press.

Del Valle and Gómez have received wide critical acclaim for their photographic essay, From the Ground Up, which explores the metamorphosis of the vernacular of domestic architecture of the Yucatan Peninsula. Images from this series were included in the Inaugural Exhbition at MOMA when it reopened last year, and will be featured in a show at Yancey Richardson Gallery which opens September 24th.

Cuban born, Del Valle & Gómez have been the recipients of two NEA grants and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Their works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and many others.
