Max Beckmann
Beckmann left behind an extensive oeuvre of prints, many of which possess the weight of paintings in regard to their content. We are therefore highly pleased and proud to present a number of prints, which present a both dense and broad, varied and yet coherent picture that gives a good idea of the even more comprehensive artistic path that this world-artist took. We will show rare proofs in comparison to final states in pairs as well as some masterpieces like the important Gruppenbildnis Edenbar and a number of self-portraits. Our selection bears witness to the protean changeability of Beckmann´s artistic identity. He was always off to new shores, searching for himself in changing time. Beckmann´s pictures draw their strength from his sympathy that was based on the total, undeniable identification with the subject depicted, which he distinguished as the most important.
