Selected as part of curator Philip Tinari's special programming for the fair, and organized in conjunction with the Focus: China section, Merely a Mistake II No.6 by Liu Wei (b. 1972, Beijing, China), is on display in the fair lounge.

The artist uses found materials that are transformed through a process of re-contextualization and re-organization to create these spire-like sculptures from the remnants of vernacular Chinese architecture (with their telltale shades of institutional blue and green from the interiors of modern-day Chinese hospitals and schools, respectively). Liu Wei’s use of these materials recalls the accelerated urbanization and massive sites of construction typical of the contemporary Chinese landscape.
