This summer Lisson Gallery presents a new body of work by Hugh Hayden that sees the artist explore his childhood and interrogate cornerstones of ingrained cultural expectations related to young men, including church, sports, hair and education. Lisson Gallery's 504 West 24th Street space will be transformed into a chapel, housing new series of sculptures in wicker, vines and ebony wood that draw on key figures and objects from American history. Hayden — whose previous exhibitions have interrogated the concept of the 'American Dream', and the role historical foodways and dining traditions have played in shaping American identity — invites the viewer to examine their place within this ever-shifting ecosystem.
