Following announcement of representation, Zhao Gang presents his first exhibition with Lisson Gallery in Beijing this summer. The exhibition debuts a new series of paintings by the artist who now lives and works between Beijing and New York, all created within the past year. At the age of 18, Zhao became the youngest member to join the ‘Star Group, the first avant-garde artistic movement to claim artistic freedom in China. His figurative paintings, with rich and diverse subjects and themes, merges their different visual languages, increasingly turning toward examinations of his personal history and the historical roots of contemporary China.
