Meyerovich Gallery presents “The Beautiful World of Carlos Rolón/Dzine” by American contemporary visual artist of Puerto Rican descent. This exhibition features paintings and works on paper by Chicago-based artist Carlos Rolón/Dzine whose distinctive style explores beauty, desire, spirituality, faith, folklore, and identity.   

The Beautiful World of Carlos Rolón/Dzine” exhibition at Meyerovich Gallery and includes a selection of his latest and most recent works. The subjects of these beautiful, small to mid-sized works include ideals of craft making, appropriation, the baroque and flowers created by the artist using an assortment of complex mediums. Including a group of elaborately crafted paintings (12 x 12 x 2 in. each) made of acrylic, enamel, crystalline, fabric, beads, and sequins on wood panel. As well as two works on paper of brilliant florals with ornate detail “Gild the Lily” (46 x 35 in. each).   Rolón was born and raised in Chicago. He attended Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in painting and drawing. His early career was heavily influenced by early New York City street, hip hop, disco and punk culture of the 1980s. Rolón’s work has been shown extensively at museums and galleries internationally and in 2007 Rolón was represented in the 52nd Venice Biennale. He is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award for Painting and Sculpture.

Rolón’s work is included in the following public collections: Bass Museum of Art, Miami; Brooklyn Museum, New York; City of Chicago Public Art Collection; Deitch Projects, New York; Museo del Barrio, New York; Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, San Juan; Museum Het Domein, Sittard, The Netherlands; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, and Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev among others.
