Peter Blake Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of works from the private collection of renowned Los Angeles art dealer Kiyo Higashi.

Best known as a dealer with abstract tastes, Higashi first opened the doors to her eponymous Beverly Hills gallery in 1987. After hosting an inaugural solo show by Larry Bell, who also designed the gallery interior, she quickly established a landmark space that was informed by her unwavering dedication to a minimalist aesthetic.

For fourteen years, the Kiyo Higashi Gallery presented numerous groundbreaking exhibitions and exhibited works by some of the most important artists of the time, including Larry Bell, Max Cole, William Dwyer, and Carolee Toon. Throughout this time, and since the closure of the gallery in 2000, Higashi has continuously championed the minimalist movement not only as a dealer but as a private collector also. Indeed, it is through her career as a dealer and her vision as a collector that Higashi is credited with having “paved the way for many important gallery exhibits” (Kristin Klosterman).

In April 2016, Peter Blake Gallery will pay tribute to Higashi’s extraordinary contribution by presenting a selection of works from her personal collection. Featured artists include Larry Bell, Mary Corse and Joe Goode.
