Biography

Timeline

Born 1961 in Bologna, Italy, where he lives and works. An informal painter and sculptor, he favours an extremely dense language of colour and material, characterized by strong, sometimes dramatic, tones. In the exhibition Impermanenze (Bologna, October-November 2022), Mazzamurro unveiled a new cycle of artworks entitled Rimangono Frammenti (Fragments Remain) in which he explores the poetics of relationship, listening and words that are misunderstood. In his sculptural work, the artist assembles strips of fir wood with nails and glue, then burns them. It is a journey awash with meanings: ash symbolizes transience, while fire represents the creative force, capable of transforming and regenerating matter. In his latest pictorial works, he applies colour to thick paper and employs a personal technique which he has refined in recent years and which allows him to leave “fragments” of colour on the surface of the painting, creating chromatic impastos that, like the experiences of life, are unrepeatable. The artist has exhibited at numerous international contemporary art fairs, such as MIART (Milan, 14-16 April 2023), Art Verona (Verona, 13-15 October 2023), Artissima (Turin, 3-5 November 2023), BAF (Bergamo, 12-14 January 2024) and Arte Fiera (Bologna, 2-4 February 2024). From 5 November to 31 December 2023 he also exhibited at the Libreria Bocca 1775 in Milan. Raffaele Mazzamurro’s works can be found in private collections throughout Italy.
