At artgenève 2023, Richard Saltoun Gallery is delighted to present a solo booth dedicated to abstract painter Romany Eveleigh, whose work stands out for her uncompromising sign-based vocabulary rooted in a minimalist aesthetic.

Borrowing techniques, and materials from the world of writing and printing, Eveleigh realised paintings, drawings and collages that place painting in a philosophical dimension. She often worked in series and on square or near-square white supports resembling blank pages.

Alongside the lesbian activist Michèle Causse, the famed American art historian Barbara Rose was one of the artist’s early champions. She described Eveleigh’s 1980s paintings as "spiritual retreats that calm and center the mind", comparing them as aids to contemplation in the same manner as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and Robert Motherwell.

Alongside the solo presentation, Richard Saltoun Gallery will also bring works by Bracha L. Ettinger, Louise Bourgeois, Sandro Chia, Alexander Brodsky, Meret Oppenheim, John Latham, Francis Picabia, Vivian Suter, Heidi Bucher and Antonio Calderara.
