The first woman to solely represent Austria at the Venice Biennale in 2019, Renate Bertlmann (b. 1943) has since the 1970s focused on issues of eroticism and sexuality through a feminist practice which spans painting, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture and performance. This selection includes some of her most recent works, including Venice Rose (2019), a sculpture made of 3 handblown Murano glass roses with metal blades, modelled on her powerful installation at the Venice Biennale.

Often considered China's first conceptual artist, the adopted Taiwanese artist Li Yuan-Chia (1929-1994) is best known for works he produced during his time in Taipei (1949-1962) and then in Bologna (1962-1966) where he developed a unique style of combining traditional Chinese calligraphy with modernist abstraction. This selection includes works on paper and paintings from both periods.
