This publication accompanies the solo exhibition of seminal contemporary artist Betye Saar featureing the artist's series of washboard assemblage sculptures - an ongoing body of work that Saar started in the late 1990s. The washboard is a potent object for Saar, a reference she uses to examine the intersection of race, class, and labor.  Betye Saar:  Keepin’ It Clean was exhibited at the Craft & Folk Art Museum Los Angeles (May 28 - August 20, 2017) and New-York Historical Society Museum and Library, New York, NY, catalogue (November 2, 2018 - March 17, 2019).
