When Newell Convers Wyeth’s first cover was published by the Saturday Evening Post in 1903, he was quickly embraced as the heir apparent to the master of the Golden Age of Illustration, Howard Pyle. In short order he developed a separate body of work as a fine artist, in addition to his ongoing career as America’s most celebrated illustrator. He nurtured a family of artists—not least his son Andrew, who achieved fame at a young age with Christina’s World (1948).
