IVAN MESTROVIC IN VIENNA 1900-1908
April 27th through June 30th

An exhibition of a rare symbolist wood column figure from Mestrovic's early period in Vienna. It incorporates new concepts that were explored by Secession artists. Mestrovic combined two different realities: The static geometric form of a column and the dynamic vitality of a boy's figure. The figure seems to be living in symbiosis with a wooden beam. Dominance of formal elements over natural appearance was a new starting point shared by young artists around Mestrovic. Karl Wittgenstein, father of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, major supporter of the Secession, patron of Gustav Klimt and Josef Hofmann, commissioned from Mestrovic a life-size wall-fountain, The Source of Life, and along with the fountain acquired a group of Columns, including the present one. The exhibition also includes a number of geometically themed graphic works from the pattern source books of Die Flache and Die Quelle, as well as works by Czeschka, Klimt, Moser, Roller, Schwarz, Stolba, and others.

The Gallery’s annual exhibition of PATRICK DEROM’s SELECTION of 20th century masters. This year’s works include Jean Arp, Julius Bissier, Marc Chagall, Jean Delville, Oscar Dominguez ,James Ensor, Max Ernst, Willy Finch, Pablo Picasso, Félicien Rops, Edouard Vuillard.
