Shepherd Gallery’s fortieth anniversary exhibition celebrates Symbolism.
Over the years the gallery has exhibited drawings by Aristide Sartorio, hosted numerous shows on Pre-Raphaelite art, and often included in its surveys works by George Minne, Max Klinger, Gustave Moreau, and more recently works of Belgian Symbolists, such as Jean Delville, Léon Spillaert, and Fernand Khnopff. This exhibition of 28 works from the collection of the Munich architect Tanmayo Mahnert-Lueg, assembles Symbolist paintings and drawings with a distinct preference for images of women. These works depicting women, chosen by a woman, present a viewpoint rather different from what one sees in most exhibitions of Symbolist art. The exhibition includes works by: Cros Delville Fabry Fidus Khnopff Le Sidaner Lévy-Dhurmer Schwabe Solomon Stuck Toorop and others
