Churchill Solo Exhibit. Churchill was the grand prize awardee from the 70th A•One Exhibit.

NEW CANAAN, CT, Mar. 12, 2022—Silvermine Galleries will host two exciting emerging artists in solo exhibitsthis spring. Alexander Churchill was grand prize awardee of Silvermine’s 70th A•ONE, and his new solo exhibit—a result of that honor—opens March 12. Jeremy Stenger’s solo exhibit of textured and botanically inspired works is being extended by popular demand and will now run through April 14.  Alexander Churchill’s exhibit includes work from four different series: “Memories and Hallucinations,” “Love in the Time of Anxiety,” “Country Club Ennui,” and “Ignorance/Complacency.” Each of his series addresses issues of the digital age in a postmodern world, explored in Churchill’s unconventional uses of figure, composition, and color. In his own artistic take on absurdism, Churchill infuses his work with a satirical humor that is fueled by a certain modern ennui and existentialism. Churchill’s works are expressive, intimate portraits that tell very poignant stories of loneliness and anxiety yet offer a hopeful reminder of our shared experiences.  The issues and stories from Churchill’s exhibit feel especially pertinent in this historical moment. In the shadow of an ongoing pandemic and in the face of re-emerging brutalities of war, many of us find ourselves in an uncertain phase of life. For these reasons, the presence of art feels critical to our ability to look inward and reflect on the nature of our own experience and the possibilities of the future.  Churchill lives and works in Connecticut. He was born in California and raised in Vermont where he earned a BFA in painting at Green Mountain College.
