The Grand Prize awardee from Silvermine’s 71st A•ONE exhibition creates paintings of his childhood drawings. The work speaks of “time within time” and the “passage of time.” The series was inspired by the pandemic which conjured feelings of fear and resilience from childhood events that Matt thought he left in the past. In the art, both the adult and child process mutual vulnerability and strength.

Matt’s education includes the Lyme Academy of Fine Art, Old Lyme, CT; a BA from the School of Visual Arts, NY; post-grad instruction at the Park Slope Atelier of Andy Reiss, Brooklyn, NY; and an MFA in Painting at the New York Academy of Art, NY. He is based in Long Island City, NY.
