Gerald Laing loomed large in the British Pop Art movement in both Britain and America, having helped to define the 1960s with his large-scale prints and paintings.  Heavily influenced by mass-produced printed media, it is no surprise that printmaking became an important technique for Laing, with his ‘60s works depicting recognisable images of bikini girls, hot rods cars, famous models, film stars and skydivers; their bold, flat planes of colour floating on areas of enlarged, bright patterns.  Baby Baby Wild Things are a set of five screenprints based on paintings made between 1963 and 1967.  The sources were magazine photographs of ‘happy days’ images.  The iconography of attraction is essentially bourgeois and the perfection is unworldly, unreal.    

Alongside Gerald Laing we will present works by internationally renowned printmakers including David Hockney, Ed Ruscha, Bridget Riley and Sol LeWitt.  Highlights include Nineteen Greys by Bridget Riley, the complete set of four screenprints in greys and the additional rare annotated screenprint. Insects by Ed Ruscha; This complete portfolio presents a motif that reccurs in Ruscha’s work along with his unique approach to printmaking and considered use of distinctive materials.  Additionally we are thrilled to be exhibiting Grids and Color by Sol LeWitt, the complete portfolio comprising 50 screenprints from the small edition of 10 as issued in the original wooden box, as well as two Celia pieces by David Hockney and a collection of beautiful Peter Doig works.
